Airmail Not Working After macOS Update — Troubleshooting Guide

Problem

After updating macOS (e.g., from Sonoma to Sequoia, or a minor update), Airmail stops working, won't open, crashes, or can't connect to your email accounts.

Solution

Step 1: Update Airmail

After a macOS update, always check for an Airmail update too:

  1. Open the App Store
  2. Go to Updates
  3. Install any available Airmail update

Step 2: Grant Permissions

macOS updates can reset app permissions:

  1. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security
  2. Check and enable permissions for Airmail under:
    • Files and Folders
    • Full Disk Access (if needed)
    • Contacts
    • Calendars
    • Notifications

Step 3: Re-authenticate Accounts

Some macOS updates reset OAuth tokens:

  1. Go to Airmail Settings → Accounts
  2. If any account shows an error, click on it
  3. Re-enter your credentials or re-authenticate with your email provider

Step 4: Reset Airmail Cache

  1. Quit Airmail (Cmd+Q)
  2. Reopen Airmail while holding the Option key
  3. You may see an option to reset or rebuild the database

Step 5: Reinstall

If nothing else works:

  1. Delete Airmail from Applications
  2. Reinstall from the App Store
  3. Re-add your accounts

Note: Your email is safe on the server — reinstalling Airmail doesn't delete your emails.
