Do I Have Airmail Pro? How to Check Your Subscription and Use It on All Your Devices
Three questions come up very often: "Is my Airmail Pro actually active?", "Do I need to buy it again for my second Mac?" and "Why does Airmail keep asking me to purchase Pro when I already have it?"
This article answers all three. Everything is done in Airmail and in your Apple account. No Terminal commands and no extra system permissions are needed.
How Airmail Pro works
Airmail is distributed exclusively through the Mac App Store and the iOS App Store, so all purchases and subscriptions are handled by Apple. Your entitlement is attached to your Apple ID, not to a particular Mac or iPhone.
This has two practical consequences:
- One subscription covers every device signed in with the same Apple ID: two Macs, an iPhone and an iPad all included, at no extra cost.
- We have no access to your purchase or billing records. Only Apple can see them, which is why we sometimes have to ask you for a receipt.
How to check whether your subscription is active
On iPhone or iPad: open Settings, tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions. Airmail will be listed with its renewal date if the subscription is active.
On a Mac: open the App Store, click your name at the bottom of the sidebar, then Account Settings. Next to Subscriptions, click Manage.
If Airmail does not appear in either list, the subscription is not active on that Apple ID. It is worth checking whether you were signed in with a different Apple ID when you bought it.
Using Pro on a second Mac
You do not need to buy anything again. On the second Mac:
- Open the App Store and make sure you are signed in with the same Apple ID used for the purchase.
- Install Airmail from the Mac App Store.
- Open Airmail, go to Preferences and use Restore Purchase.
Pro features should appear within a few seconds.
When Restore Purchase does not work
If Airmail still asks you to buy Pro after restoring, check these points in order.
- Apple ID. The App Store on that device must be signed in with exactly the Apple ID that made the purchase. This is the most common cause by far.
- Store country. Purchases cannot be restored across App Store regions. The account region must match.
- Where you bought it. An Airmail Pro subscription covers both Mac and iOS with the same Apple ID. Older one-time purchases were tied to a single platform, so a purchase made only on iOS may not extend to the Mac app.
- Internet connection. Restore Purchase needs to reach Apple's servers. macOS may ask for your Apple ID password during the restore, which is normal and expected.
- A fresh attempt. Quit Airmail with Command-Q, reopen it, and use Restore Purchase once more.
Family Sharing
If Family Sharing is enabled for your Apple family group, other members can use the same Airmail Pro subscription with their own Apple ID. Each person still signs in with their own account; nothing needs to be purchased twice.
If you still cannot restore your purchase
Please contact us with the following, and we will look into it:
- the Apple ID email address used for the purchase
- your App Store receipt, showing the order ID and the purchase date
- your macOS or iOS version
- your Airmail version
- which device the restore fails on
The receipt is essential, because it is the only way we can verify a purchase that we cannot see from our side.
Cancelling or changing payment details
Both are handled in your Apple account, in the same Subscriptions section described above. Cancelling stops future renewals; Pro features remain available until the end of the period you have already paid for. Refund requests go through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
