How to Create and Manage Email Rules in Airmail

Problem

You want to automatically organize emails (move, label, mark) based on certain criteria.

Solution

On macOS

  1. Go to Settings → Rules
  2. Click Add Rule
  3. Set the conditions:
    • From (sender)
    • To (recipient)
    • Subject contains
    • And more
  4. Set the action:
    • Move to folder
    • Mark as read
    • Archive
    • Star/flag
    • Delete
  5. Save the rule

Tips

  • Rules apply to new incoming emails
  • You can create multiple rules and they'll be applied in order
  • For server-side rules that work even when Airmail isn't open, create rules in your email provider's web interface (Gmail Filters, Outlook Rules, etc.)
  • Airmail rules only apply when the app is running

Common Rule Examples

  • Move all emails from newsletters@example.com to "Newsletters" folder
  • Mark all emails from your boss as starred
  • Auto-archive emails from notification@social.com
