How to Update Airmail to the Latest Version on Mac (and What to Do If the Update Won't Appear)

Keeping Airmail up to date ensures you have the latest features, performance improvements, and bug fixes. On Mac, Airmail is distributed through the Mac App Store, so updates are handled by the App Store rather than from inside the app. This guide shows you how to check your current version, update to the latest one, and fix the most common reasons an update may not appear.
Check your current version
Open Airmail, then in the menu bar at the top of the screen click Airmail > About Airmail. Note the version and build number shown (for example, 26.0.21).
Update from the Mac App Store
Open the App Store app on your Mac. In the menu bar, click Account (or click your name in the bottom-left corner). Look under Updates / Available Updates. If an update for Airmail is listed, click Update. If you see Open instead of Update, you already have the latest version installed.
Is Airmail compatible with my Mac (including Apple Silicon)?
Yes. Airmail on the Mac App Store is a universal app and runs on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs (M1, M2, M3, M4, M5 and later). You do not need a different or special version for a newer Mac, simply install the latest version available in the Mac App Store.
If the update won't appear or the app won't update
If Airmail still shows an older version after checking for updates, try these steps in order. First, make sure macOS itself is up to date (Apple menu > System Settings > General > Software Update), then check the App Store again. Quit and reopen the App Store and look under Account > Updates once more. Sign out of the Mac App Store (Store > Sign Out) and sign back in with the same Apple ID you used to get Airmail. Restart your Mac and check for updates again. If you just set up a new Mac or restored from a backup, open the App Store, go to Account, and look under Purchased to download the latest Airmail directly.
