Managing Disk Space and Large Attachments

Problem

Airmail's local data is taking up a lot of disk space (e.g. 35GB+), and the user wants to find and delete emails with large attachments.

Solution

Airmail does not currently support sorting emails by attachment size or displaying attachment sizes in the message list. To manage disk space:

Search for attachments – Use the search bar with keywords like
has:attachment
or file type filters (e.g.
.pdf
,
.zip
) to locate emails with attachments.

Delete via Finder – Open an email with an attachment, right-click the attachment → Show in Finder, delete the file, and empty Trash.

Use webmail – Log into your email provider's web interface (Gmail, Outlook, etc.) to sort by size and delete large emails from there.

Do NOT use Clear Message Cache – This deletes locally stored emails entirely, not just indexes.

For the backup folder location, go to Finder → Shift+Command+G →
~/Library/Group Containers/2E337YPCZY.airmail
.
