Snooze and Send Later in Airmail — Limits, Setup and Troubleshooting
Overview
Airmail offers two scheduling features that make it easier to manage your inbox: Snooze, which temporarily removes a message from the Inbox and brings it back at a chosen time, and Send Later, which delays the delivery of an outgoing email until a specified date and time.
Both features rely on Airmail's server to deliver the message at the correct moment, so the account must be properly authenticated and online.
Limits
- Snooze: messages can be snoozed up to a maximum of 3 months from the current date.
- Send Later: messages can be scheduled up to a maximum of 1 month from the current date.
Attempts to schedule beyond these limits will be reverted to the maximum allowed value.
How to Snooze a Message
- Open the message in the Inbox.
- Use the Snooze action (clock icon on macOS, or swipe gesture on iOS / iPadOS).
- Choose one of the available presets (Later Today, Tomorrow, This Weekend, Next Week, etc.) or select "Pick a Date" to set a custom date and time.
- The message will move from the Inbox to the Snoozed folder and will return automatically to the Inbox at the configured time.
How to Schedule an Email with Send Later
- Compose your message as usual.
- Tap and hold (or click the arrow next to) the Send button to access the Send Later option.
- Select a preset (in 1 hour, This Evening, Tomorrow Morning, etc.) or pick a custom date and time within the 1-month window.
- The message will be stored in the Outbox until the scheduled time, when Airmail will deliver it automatically.
Configuring Snooze Presets
On macOS, snooze presets can be customised in:
Airmail > Settings > Snooze
On iOS / iPadOS:
Settings > Snooze
For each preset (Later Today, Tomorrow, This Weekend, Next Week) you can configure the day of the week and the exact time at which the message should reappear. For example, "Next Week" can be set to Monday at 09:00.
Troubleshooting
The snoozed message stays in the Inbox
This usually means that the snooze action did not complete correctly. Please verify the following:
- Snoozed folder mapping: in Airmail Settings > Accounts > [your account] > Folders, confirm that a folder is associated as "Snoozed". If no folder is associated, snoozed messages may remain in the Inbox.
- Account authentication: make sure the account is properly authenticated and that no error icon is shown next to it.
- Application restart: fully quit and reopen Airmail, then try snoozing a single test message.
- Custom date test: if the issue is limited to a specific preset, try "Pick a date" with the same date/time. If that works, the preset itself may be misconfigured (see "Configuring Snooze Presets" above).
A message snoozed long-term does not return
Make sure the chosen date does not exceed the 3-month limit. If the date was beyond that limit, the message will return earlier than expected, since the system caps the snooze at the maximum allowed value.
A scheduled message was not sent
- Verify that your device was online and Airmail had network access at the scheduled time.
- Check the Outbox to confirm whether the message is still queued or has failed.
- Confirm that the account used for sending is properly authenticated.
- Make sure the scheduled date does not exceed the 1-month Send Later limit.
